The Growth Game with Greg Cook
Monday May 25, 2020
Monday May 25, 2020
I feel like I've known Greg Cook for at least as long as I've been an independent consultant, both in speaking with him at the time and having the opportunity to work with him.
But the one thing I know about Greg is not only is he a very successful business owner. There's a certain way that he does it and it seems at times effortless, although I'm sure it's not.
In this episode of The Finnovator, I talked to Greg about the lessons he's learned in punching through what I would call the dangerous middle, that space that advice businesses can get stuck in between having a lifestyle business and having a truly large multi-staff and scalable firm.
Everything from:- delegating to staff - Getting your pricing right - M&A and business valuations - And most importantly, how the journey has changed for him as he's gone from small business to medium business. and now to where he is.
If you're interested in understanding the path that lies between a small business, and something truly great this will be a real doozy.

Mapping the Future with Paul Feeney
Monday May 18, 2020
Monday May 18, 2020
Paul Feeney is someone whose counsel I really value. If you don't know him by name, you may know about his creation, Map My Plan, which was one of the first fintech tools to play in the self-service advice space.
And when I say "self service", I"m not talking about robo advice investment managers pretending they're full advice, I"m talking about giving people the tools to literally create their own compliant financial plan.
But what I loved about talking to Paul wasn't just his experiences with success in social media (which he talked openly about), or successfully gettting ASIC to change it's directives about online advice, it's the passion he has for what we all want to see; advice becoming more accessble for more people.
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoy talking to Paul.

Friday Apr 24, 2020
Have you ever met somebody who just seems to be so successful across such a number of different areas that you're intrigued at how they got that way?
Andrew Rocks is someone that is best described as a polymath of the financial planning business.
When I flew to the Philippines last year, Andrew was one of the first person I spoke to at the event and it opened up a conversation that seems to just go so many places.
He's been a successful financial planning entrepreneur in many ways. He's deeply involved in software, plays the guitar and a whole bunch more. I just knew that when it comes to how to build an advice business that is highly valuable at scale and understand what's going on at the cutting edge of tech advice, Andrew is just one of those persons that it pays to listen to.
In this episode of The Finnovator, we dived deep on all of those topics and more.
Enjoy!

Monday Apr 06, 2020
In June I'll have the pleasure of working with the team at Netwealth to run a second webinar with them, but I wanted to share the results from our last session, all about that key issue I love to work with firms on; building a scalable model. The session attracted an awesome audience of 170, and we went deep on why financial professionals have so much to leverage from applying a 'Silicon Valley mindset' when it comes to finding those big ideas to help efficiently scale practices.Topics covered included:
How to outsource via freelancers and virtual assistants.
Creating a better on-boarding sequence
Strategies to construct more scalable service offers.
Setting up better record keeping methods.
How to start using technology and stop technology using you.
For those of you within our Leveraged coaching program, you'll recognise some of the key concepts. For the rest of you, I hope you enjoy this episode of The Finnovator.

122 Clients in 12 Months with Daniel Brown
Monday Apr 06, 2020
Monday Apr 06, 2020
If you've ever doubted whether social media can generate new business for advice firms, Daniel Brown is about to blow those thoughts into last week.As Founder, CEO and award-nominated adviser at Newcastle Financial Planning Group, Daniel isn't a marketing consultant with great ideas. He's a practitioner who built his practice from the ground up and made a call very early on that he would be the one to mastering the marketing game. And master it he has. When we caught up in Cebu, very early on in the conversation I realised that I was talking to someone who had two extremely valuable skillsets: understanding the business of advice and understanding how to market it online. The results speak for themselves. In the last 12 months alone, his marketing efforts - spanning weekly content marketing (blogs), marketing with strategic partners, rebranding, Adwords and more - have resulted in 122 new clients and $1.2m in revenue. In this episode of The Finnovator, Daniel and I explored how he did it, by talking what it is he does differently that has made such a significant difference and the secrets to mastering one of the most important skills any adviser ready to make the mindset shift to entrepreneur-who-happens-to deliver-great-advice must make.
